1. Rocket League 6
Rocket League 6 has been regarded as one of the most popular games in 2022. It is a sequel to Rocket League which is a car-soccer video game developed and published by Psyonix. Rocket League 6 improves on the first Rocket League in every way, from the graphics to customization options, and yet it still manages to feel familiar. The best part about this sequel? Players can now customize their cars with decals that they unlock as they play.
2. Destiny 3
Destiny 3 was released on September 8 2022 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only as its predecessor Destiny 2 was released for those two consoles plus Windows due to legal disputes between Activision Blizzard and Sony Interactive Entertainment over an exclusivity deal gone bad. So we will not see this game released on any other consoles including previous-gen ones such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 or next-gen consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett.
3. Borderlands 3
Cult classic Borderlands is finally receiving its long-awaited sequel in 2022. The popular role-playing first-person shooter video game from Gearbox Software and 2K Games has been announced that it will be released for PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One only. And the prequel Borderlands: The Handsome Collection which includes remastered versions of both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! will release on March 24 2019 for these two consoles plus Windows also exclusively due to legal reasons similar to Destiny 3.
4. Assassin’s Creed 11
Assassin’s Creed 11 was released on October 30 2022 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Ubisoft promised that this game will feature the biggest change in the series, and they lived up to their word. First of all, Assassin’s Creed 11 is no longer an annual franchise like before as it takes place in London during World War 1 with a new protagonist available to play called Jonathan Hawk.
5. Sonic 25th Anniversary Edition
Sonic 25th Anniversary Edition is another sequel that fans never thought would happen after all the previous releases which failed critically and commercially. But Sega finally redeemed themselves by releasing one game with several game modes including Adventure Mode where players can explore familiar zones in a huge open-world environment similar to Skyrim or Fallout 4 but within classic 2D sidescrolling perspective inspired by Super Mario 64 or Banjo-Kazooie.
6. Fallout 76
Fallout 76 is the latest installment in the Fallout series which was recently announced at E3 2023 on June 10 with a teaser trailer. It will have some online features allowing players to play with others, but it will not be an MMO game as previous Fallout games were known for. Instead, Fallout 76 will still use Bethesda’s own engine Creation Engine instead of using a modified version of Skyrim’s engine like Fallout 4 did or using any other third-party engines such as CryEngine or Unreal Engine like The Elder Scrolls Online and The Elder Scrolls: Legends respectively do which made these two games look outdated compared to even 2011’s Skyrim PC release despite the fact that both The Elder Scrolls Online and The Elder Scrolls: Legends released in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
7. World of Warcraft 8
Blizzard is finally releasing the long-awaited eighth expansion pack for its most popular MMORPG video game ever, World of Warcraft which will take players to the all-new continents of Zandalar and Kul Tiras. This will be a great opportunity to bring in fresh blood into the world in anticipation of WoW9 release or in case if they want a break from Demon Hunter due to it being way too OP when combined with other classes such as Shadow Priest, Assassination Rogue, Affliction Warlock, Fire Mage, etc. There are still no details about whether every class will have an equal playing field compared to Demon Hunter or there be major adjustments required but we will have to wait for more information which should come out in the next few months.
8. Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy XVI is expected to release on November 20 2024 for PlayStation 5 only. The game captured the hearts of many Final Fantasy fans when it was announced earlier this year and despite having some crappy graphics (although they were greatly improved by modders) and NPCs looking like rejects from Saints Row IV, Square Enix succeeded in delivering an emotional story that truly engages players with its unique world filled with magic and monsters while dealing with serious real-life themes such as racism, corruption, and war which we don’t normally see in a traditional fantasy RPG like this one. There will be lots of new features including two new races: Moogles (beast race) and Lunarians (aquatic race).
9. Gears of War 5
Gears of War 5 is expected to release on June 10 2025 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It’s one of the most anticipated games in years due to the fact that Microsoft purchased the rights to this series back in 2018 which means it won’t be published by Activision like previous releases. This game will mark a new chapter where Marcus Fenix is no longer around leaving his son JD Fenix as the protagonist with Del Walker as a new playable character. They are part of the COG militia fighting Swarm while dealing with some personal issues at the same time. The game has not yet received official confirmation but gamers hope it can live up to the heritage of this great series.
10. Elder Scrolls VI
In Elder Scrolls VI, players will get to travel to all parts of Tamriel, the world which has been featured in past Elder Scrolls games. There is no release date announced but it’s expected to come out in 2019 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. While there are rumors about Elder Scrolls VI being set in Argonia or Akavir, most gamers believe that it will be the Ragaens Isles that correspond with “Elsweyr” which was confirmed by the game’s director in 2018. Players hope that Bethesda will deliver the same high-quality fantasy RPG gameplay which has become a staple for this series ever since it was first released back in 1994.
11. Cyberpunk 2077
This game captured many gamers’ hearts when it was first announced back in 2012 due to its amazing graphics and gameplay. However, CD Projekt Red remained silent for years after its initial reveal and in February 2019, Cyberpunk 2077 finally got a release date for April 2020 in the United States. The game is set in Night City which is loosely based in California’s Bay Area where players can purchase all sorts of items. There are no levels in the game but players will be able to unlock new abilities by using Perk Points.
12. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
Ubisoft has not said anything about Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 release date (although it’s expected to come out sometime in 2020) or whether there will be cross-platform between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 but gamers don’t care about that anymore due to massively failed attempts made by Ubisoft studio Massive Entertainment. With a new setting, players should anticipate a different take on the survival shooter compared to other games in this genre.
13. Pokemon Sword and Shield
With no release date announced so far apart from “late 2019”, gamers are beginning to lose hope as Nintendo has been silent about Pokemon Sword and Shield for far too long now. The fact that it’s being developed for Nintendo Switch rather than 3DS is a relief since it won’t have those crappy graphics from previous entries but whether or not GameFreak can deliver something good is yet to be seen. Hopefully, we will know more about the game during E3 2019 next month.
14. Eternal
Doom (2016) developer, Bethesda studio is about to release an online-only survival game called Eternal which first came out as a closed beta test back in March 2019 for PC and Xbox One. It will feature 4X strategy gameplay where players must build up their own settlements while also exploring the world, collecting resources, and facing challenges from other gamers. Since the game just entered open beta on May 20, 2019, we still don’t know exactly when it will come out but it could be released later this year or early 2020 for PC and Xbox One.
15. Borderlands 3
Borderlands 3 was originally planned for release in 2017 after it got delayed from its initial launch window of September 2018 but 2K Games has remained silent ever since then meaning that this game must be under development hell. The reason for this delay is that the studio wanted to boost Borderlands 3 graphics so that it can compete with other AAA games on the market. Also, 2K Games might have decided to release more DLCs for Borderlands: The Handsome Collection in order to boost profits before focusing on its newest entry. As of today, Gearbox has not even revealed what platforms will get Borderlands 3 but we hope that it will come out either late 2019 or sometime in 2020 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
16. Deathloop
This is an action-adventure, dungeon crawler from Harebrained Schemes studio where players will have to use their weapons and wits to survive encounters against a variety of enemies. Deathloop is expected to be released for Windows PC sometime later this year but it’s going to be a lot cheaper than most AAA games due to the fact that there is no single-player mode and it’s an online co-op experience instead.
17. Resident Evil Village
Resident Evil 7 turned out to be a perfect game when it comes to VR horror experience but Capcom studio didn’t stop there. It has plans to release multiple VR titles in the future including Resident Evil 7 biohazard: The Experience which is based on last year’s main game. There are other VR spin-offs planned for Resident Evil 2, 3, and Code: Veronica as well as new Shagaru Magala multiplayer DLCs for Monster Hunter World.
18. Metroid Dread
Metroid Prime 4 was a disaster on Nintendo Switch but this has not stopped the Big N from releasing more games in this franchise. Metroid Dread is going to be a 2D side-scrolling action game that fans have been begging for since 2007 and it’s expected to release somewhere around 2020. But it might as well be canceled since Metroid Prime 4 is still in development hell and it’s unknown when Nintendo plans on releasing this game.
19. Back 4 Blood
The original Left 4 Dead came out way back in 2008 and it’s time for Valve studio to release a proper sequel if they plan on sticking with the franchise. Back 4 Blood is being developed for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One although there are no signs that this game will be revealed anytime soon. It might even turn out to be a VR exclusive since Valve has been working on a new headset as well as HTC Vive.
20. Inscryption Released
This game is a third-person action-adventure that comes from Eidos Montreal studio who is responsible for the last two Deus Ex games. As expected, the game takes place in a cyberpunk future where players will have to infiltrate secure locations and hack into their systems in order to obtain valuable data.
